Microsoft has a new app called Fetch!, and though it’s literally “for the dogs,” humans also seem to be getting a kick out of it.

The app – and its parallel website, What-Dog.net – scans a photo of a dog and then reports its best guess of the animal’s breed. It even breaks down the percentages of each breed, should the pooch be a mix.

Not surprisingly, users quickly starting using Fetch! on photos of themselves, their friends and of course, the front runners in the American presidential election.

According to the website iMore.com, the app and website use Microsoft’s special Project Oxford API image identification tools to decide which dog you are.

Though this could be a useful tool for veterinarians or other people that work with dogs, so far the app and site seem destined to be used more for jokes than for actual breed identification.

For example, Twitter user @anniespjs scanned a photo of her cat and got this result:

Others are already addicted, like @CorinneRedfern

As for those actually trying to identify their dog’s breed, reviews are mixed. One commenter on the app’s website wrote:

“As a veterinarian I was excited to try this app. So far it has worked great on pictures of my cavalier King Charles spaniel but has struggled providing a consistent answer for pictures of my terrier.”

Another was less thrilled with the results:

“I have a dog whose had a DNA test done and I snapped his picture a couple times. Results are way off. Keeps trying to make even my small whippet mix a Great Dane. So… I would say that there is entertainment value but nothing else.”

There’s no doubt it’s entertaining. Admit it: you’re just dying to know if you’re an English cocker spaniel or an Afghan hound.
