Must-see videos of the week: June 23 to 29

This week's must-see videos introduce us to endearing animals, a visceral reminder of Mother Nature's potentially lethal power and perhaps the year's most hilarious selfie. We'll meet dogs, cats, a ferret, a fearless snake charmer and a three-year-old girl with a bright future as some kind of storyteller — an actress, perhaps, or a criminal defence lawyer.

We begin with the latest, and yes, perhaps the greatest take on the Game of Thrones craze, a video titled: Game Of Thrones Pugs: Meet The Pugs of Westeros, starring Roxy, Blue and Bono as the cast of the hit TV show — all of this in costume, natch. Apparently the dogs' owners Phillip Lauer, 57, and his wife Sue, 47, have been dressing their pugs up as characters from cinema and TV since they were puppies — show biz pugs!

The most adorable little fibber you ever did see ate the doughnut but won't admit to the crime. They say it's not a lie if you truly believe your story, and this girl, at all of three years of age, seems to have that down. Her mother isn't buying it, but that doesn't make the treat-eating rule breaker any less cute.

Ah, drivers in their 80s. When a couple married for 60 years has been on the road this many decades, you might expect they've done it all, but this California couple not only managed to flip their car (it's still not clear how that happened), but also snapped the high-waisted-pants pic of the year (of all time?) to go with it. "Let it roll, baby, roll" ... as long as nobody gets hurt and there's gut-laugh worthy photo evidence.

Whether the guy who captured video of lighting striking just metres from him — a rocket scientist named Bruce Hyland, 63, according to our video provider's info — is lucky, astute, courageous or possibly insane, the resulting video remains a fascinating reminder of just how powerful nature can get.

While camping with friends at Shoshone Lake in Wyoming, Hyland recorded a hailstorm hitting the lake surface, but managed to get a clear shot of lighting hitting the ground. He didn’t realize he had caught it on camera until he and his friends played the video footage and saw the strike erupted just 30ft away from where they had been standing (and here's a newsier video report on this one).

The ferret is a less common pet than the cat, that's for sure, but watch what happens when the family cat encounters a pair of the rodents, which aren't much smaller than this feline. The kitty can't find the ferrets anywhere!

And because there's so much video goodness to go around this week, here's one of our two bonus picks:

This snake charmer from China has lived with snakes for over 30 years. That's a long time to establish the human-snake bond and, we imagine, amounts to a lot of trust. Or maybe several snake bites along the way, who knows. The important thing here is, this guy can easily put a snake into his mouth or let it go through his nose. Check out his amazing skills!

And this week we'll throw in an extra bonus: A puppy (named Topanga) who doesn't understand a rainbow and frantically tries to keep her owner safe from the colourful light spectrum "threat." Good girl!
