Must-see videos of the week – April 26

A pilot who was forced to make a belly landing after the small plane's landing gear failed described the tense moments just before she brought the plane down.

From a pilot landing a plane on its belly to an amazing story of an amputee recovering after the Boston bombings, we've seen some great videos this week. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Pilot lands plane on belly without landing gear

Pilot Michelle Stauffer has been flying for more than three decades and never had such a scary experience in the air. KMBC reports her and co-pilot Terry Blake were heading to a meeting Thursday when their landing gear wouldn't go down. So they made a U-turn and headed back to their airfield in Kansas. The backup emergency system also failed. They circled the airfield while calling mechanics and reading the manual, but nothing worked. So she decided to bring the plane in on its belly. In the video you can even see where the propeller scratched the runway. However, the incident is not scaring Stauffer out of the skies. She plans to get the plane fixed and get back up in the air as soon as she can.

2. Man goes up in flames during Harlem Shake

The first few 'Harlem Shake' videos went viral, but now it seems like everyone is doing their own version. One this past week did go viral though and not because of the dancing. One of the incredibly enthusiastic background dancers in a German rendition fell into a large bonfire and became engulfed in flames. As seen in the video, one of his friends rushed to his aid and pulled him out of the fire. It's a tradition in Germany to light bonfires around the Easter season, but jumping in the fire isn't part of the tradition.

3. Boston bombing amputee amazing upbeat

Heather Abbott had her left foot badly damaged during the bombings in Boston and was carried out of harm's way by a former NFL player. She made it to the hospital in time for doctors to give her the option of keeping her left foot or amputating just below the left knee. Keeping it would mean a lot of pain for the rest of her life so she decided to amputate. And despite that she can't keep from smiling and says she is giving "little thought to the bombers."

4. Goldfish saved by life vest

Most people think of goldfish as being good swimmers, but one in England developed a disease which caused him to flip upside down and sink to the bottom of the tank. So Leighton Naylor built a special life jacket to save Einstein's life. The jacket is made out of spare aquarium tubing and allows Einstein to be able to swim regularly.

"He's always been a fighter so when he sunk to the bottom one day and couldn't get back up again it was a very sorry sight," Naylor told the Daily Mail. "People have said I'm crazy but every animal is a valued family member and I do my best to help every one of them."

When Einstein initially put the vest on it was getting stuck on stuff in the tank so Naylor also made the tank "disability friendly."

5. Opening a can with a spoon

If you've ever been a bachelor or if you often camp, you've probably run into the issue of not having a can opener. I've occasionally had to go hungry for this very reason. But now someone has solved that problem. In a viral video, he shows people how to pry open that stubborn can lid with just a spoon and some strong forearms. We haven't tried it so we don't know if it actually works.
