Must-see videos of the week – July 27

From a giant fish to real life heroes, we saw some amazing videos this week. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Monster fish caught in B.C.

A British couple vacationing in B.C. hauled in a massive white sturgeon that is believed to be one of the largest fish ever caught for sport in North America. The fish was 3.8 metres long and about 500 kilograms. Michael Snell, 65, said he struggled with the fish for 45 minutes before even seeing it surface.

The fish was almost the size of the boat and Snell's wife Margaret had to hold his harness to keep him on the boat. According to The Canadian Press, the animal had never been tagged meaning it had never been caught before. The guide estimates it was at least 100 years old. The Snell's took a few photos and the released the giant beast back into the water to be caught another day.

"I could only get my arms halfway around the (sturgeon's) head," said Snell to CP. "It's so big, like a wine barrel or a 50-gallon oil drum."

2. Acts of valour

Four boyfriends took bullets to save the lives of their girlfriends when a gunman in a Colorado movie theatre opened fire. When panic ensued at the Batman premier in Aurora, Colorado, some real life heroes emerged to help save loved ones.

3. B.C. woman bit by a shark

Kaitlin Dakers may be the first person ever to be bit by a shark in Canadian waters. The B.C. woman was learning to surf in Tofino earlier this month when she saw blood in the water and noticed cuts in two of her fingers. She initially thought it was the board leash, but a doctor said that was impossible and said it looked like more of a shark bite.

Sharks are not common in Canadian waters, but salmon sharks are a species that can handle the colder water and frequent the North Pacific Ocean. They are a close relative of the Great White. While a shark expert wants to see the pictures to piece together the story, it'll probably be impossible to ever say for sure if it was a salmon shark that caused the damage.

4. Bear cubs rescued from dumpster

A black bear mother and her three cubs got into a bit of trouble when the little ones climbed into a dumpster and were unable to get out in New Mexico. Luckily for the bears, there is Shirley Schenk and her husband Tom. They told ABC News they heard the crying throughout the night and as soon as dawn hit they put a ladder in the back of a pick up truck and with Shirley in the cab, lowered it into the dumpster so the cubs could climb out.

"I was not scared," said Shirley to ABC News. "I had my husband driving and I knew we'd drop it and go...I would have never done that on foot."

The mother is notorious in the neighbourhood and the Schenks keep the ladder by the garage door for this exact reason. This is the third time the Schenks have rescued bears from a dumpster using this method.

5. Dancing cop

Our final video may help you get into the Olympic spirit. Waiting for the Olympic Torch to arrive can be a pretty exciting moment and one English bobby made it even more exciting for some fans. He started busting a move to the music and even did some break-dancing as crowds cheered him on. It happened on day 63 of the nationwide relay when the Torch made its way through Sevenoaks, Kent, according to The Nation.
