Skywriter writes 'how do I land' above Los Angeles

From a pilot's hilarious message in the sky to an amazing camera that shows you what bugs see, we've seen some great videos this week. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Skywriting pilot asks: 'How do I land?'

Imagine looking up to see a pilot spelling out "How Do I Land?" with clouds in the sky. That's precisely what Los Angeles sky-gazers saw the other day. American comedian Kurt Braunohler raised nearly $7,000 through Kickstarter to turn the city's sky into a message board. The message may have only lasted briefly due to strong winds, but we say it was worth every cloud!

2. KFC smugglers deliver fast food the hard way

Fried chicken-lovers in Gaza are ready to shell out $30 for illegal KFC meals. The crispy treats, purchased in Egypt, probably get cold by the time they are smuggled in through the tunnels, but that doesn't seem to deter Gaza residents. Could fried chicken be the real key to the much-needed peace in that place?

3. Portland Police halt chase to save baby ducks

Though it might not help police intimidate future law breakers into obedience, this scene will melt anyone's heart. A police officer in pursuit of a speeding car in Portland, Ore., stopped the chase to guide a duck and its ducklings away from the road. Officer Mark James resumed his pursuit after the waddling family's reached safety, but unfortunately the speeding car has escaped. Clearly, it had a lot less regard for cute baby ducks. Shame on you, speeding law-breakers!

4. New camera captures a bug's eye view

The University of Illinois scientists have created a miniature lens that can show you exactly how bugs see the world. The panoramic view of this camera mimics an insect's ability to see in all directions at once. And if you are wondering what the point is: it could help enhance surveillance cameras, its creators explain.

5. Double amputee completes trek for charity

Meet Spencer West. As a child he lost both legs to illness, but that didn't stop him from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro last summer. This week, he's done something even harder (his words, not ours) and completed an 11-day trek from Edmonton to Calgary. His trip was meant to raise awareness of the distances some must walk to reach clean water. Watch him cross the last few metres of the trek in this inspirational video.
