Must-see videos of the week – May 3

How do you even teach your dog to do something like that? That's just absolutely ridiculous!

From a dog that is trained to use the toilet to a man who survived 27 hours at sea while sharks circled below, we've seen some great videos this week. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Dog trained to use toilet

If you have to get up super early and go out in the freezing cold to walk your dog, you will most likely want the name of whoever trained this dog. Somehow it knows how to hop on the toilet seat, relieve itself and then flush the toilet. According to a post on eHow, it is actually possible. "It may sound silly, but with a little patience, and a lot of encouragement, you can potty train your furry friend," reads the site. It outlines four steps, but I still have a hard time believing it.

2. Pilot lands helicopter on a guard rail

A van crashed on a highway in Norway and a doctor had to be quickly flown to the scene. The helicopter obviously was going to have issues landing on the road, so to drop the doctor off, the pilot, Lars Amdal, landed it on the guard rail. According to a post on Reddit, Amdal had to tackle some wind, proximity to vehicles, the cliff and power lines, but downplays the maneuver. "This type of landing is relatively common in Norway," reads the post. "Similar landings will be executed on rock formations or on cabin roofs during mountain rescues."

3. Returning soldier meets child for first time

Captain Travis Absher began an 11-month deployment in Afghanistan when his wife was pregnant. The couple was able to Skype during the delivery, but when he returned home last Sunday, it was the first time he got to hold his now six-month-old daughter. "Words can't describe the feeling I'm feeling right now," he said.

4. Surfer survives after being lost at sea for 27 hours

South African Brett Archibald was off the coast of Indonesia heading by boat to a surfing spot when he felt ill, blacked out and fell into the water. He woke up already in the water with nothing to hold on to and stayed alive by swimming and treading water. Somehow, the father of two managed to withstand jellyfish stings, sunburn, dehydration, pecking fish and seagulls, circling sharks and some of the most dangerous currents on the planet. Archibald was eventually picked up by an Australian-owned boat with a crew that gave up their surf trip to look for him.

5. Tiny dog tries to walk big dog

We're not sure who is walking who here, but if the little dog think it's walking the bigger one, it's having about as much success as I would, trying to walk a Clydesdale. It honestly doesn't look like the white dog even notices the other one as it sniffs its way around the park.
