Must-see videos of the week – May 31

From an angry bird attacking people in Ottawa to an angry goat attacking people in Brazil, we've seen some great videos this week. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Angry bird attacks on Parliament Hill

I was out for a run one day along the Don River path in Toronto when I felt something digging into my head. After a bit of freaking out and shaking it was gone. On my way back along the same path I realized what happened. I saw a Red-winged Blackbird attack a fellow runner. These male birds do whatever it takes to defend their territory, which usually contains about five female birds, according to Wild Birds Unlimited. More than a quarter of the male's time is spent defending the territory from other males and predators, including humans. They swoop down from a higher point, usually in a tree, and go after the person's head. At least humans can just duck for cover. They Blackbirds will declare war on Marsh Wrens in their territory and go after their eggs. If only the Ottawa birds would go after the cheating politicians instead of just people who walk through their territory.

2. Rob Ford the musical

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has been topping headlines in the city and making news south of the border as well for the past few weeks, since a few reporters said they saw him smoking crack cocaine in a video. Late night talk show hosts have had their fun with him and now so is Canadian actor Matt Hopkins in this musical parody.

3. Angry goat terrorizes town

A disgruntled goat escaped from a farm and now hangs out by a jail in Londrina, Brazil trying to ram its head into everyone. No one seems to be safe - not old ladies, not cars, not scooters, no one.

4. Crane collapses into building

Amateur footage captured a construction crane falling into a nine-storey building in Kirov, Russia. The building was home to about 300 people, but the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no casualties. They believe the incident occurred because the crane was not properly secured. There has only been one major construction crane collapse in Canada recently. One person died when a crane fell while building the new subway station at Toronto's York University in 2011.

5. One of the most dangerous schools in America

Diane Sawyer and a camera crew went inside Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia. It's an area where 40 per cent of people live in poverty and the neighbourhood has the city's highest rate of homicides and assaults. There are 94 cameras, bag screeners, metal detectors, security guards and police for just 432 students. Despite all of this there are still dozens of violent incidents each year, some of which involve razor blades and other weapons. The principal even gets in the middle to break up some fights.
