Ontario woman accidentally wins Casino jackpot while reaching for a Pepsi

For Shirley Lima, the thrill of victory had never tasted so sweet.

“I’m still in shock,” Lima told the Whig-Standard of her $33, 858 haul at the OLG Casino Thousand Islands. “It was a mistake, a good mistake.”

The grandmother of 12 had been going to the OLG Casino since it opened and last week, she decided to play the slots on seniors day. It started out as just a typical day at the casino.

According to the Kingston Herald, Lima was playing her favourite game on the CHINA SHORES Konami Machine, which has a free spin bonus feature and there is no limit for the amount of free spins.

Lima usually plays with penny bets but after winning some cash earlier in the day, she switched over to five-cent bets.

As she reached over for her drink, Lima had inadvertently pushed the max-bet button. At first she didn’t realize it and kept hitting the spin-out button a couple more times.

“I couldn’t believe I was betting $11.25 a spin,” said Lima. “Much to my surprise, that spin entered me into the bonus round of the game.”

The bonus feature re-triggered more free spins and Lima ended up with more than 700 free spins – a Casino-record amount of spins.

Well over an hour, “it just kept spinning, and spinning, and spinning,” Lima told the Whig-Standard. “When it finished, I have $33,858. It was a complete and utter shock.”

With her winnings, Lima plans on paying off some bills and taking a vacation with her husband.
