Orchestra gives new meaning to 'hot' by performing after eating deadly-hot peppers

This orchestra was on fire – or at least their mouths were.

Organized by well-known chili sadist Claus “Chili” Pilgaard, the Danish National Chamber Orchestra performed a rousing rendition of Tango Jalousie after consuming some of the world’s hottest chili peppers.

With the assistance of concertmaster Erik Heide, the orchestra began the piece on empty stomachs, and then ate scary-hot Caroline Reapers and ghost peppers before continuing.

The thing about these peppers is that at first, they’re tolerable. But like a bad night with a bottle of tequila, the effects get increasingly worse as time passes.

With consummate professionalism, the orchestra members are able to complete the piece flawlessly despite grimacing, crying and turning increasingly red-faced. At the final note, most musicians abandon their instruments in search of relief.

It’s not the first time Pilgaard has intentionally tortured people. Earlier this year, he organized a crowd of 1,000 people to simultaneously eat ghost peppers, known as the hottest peppers in the world.

To his credit, Pilgaard certainly knows how to heat things up.
