Pathetic robbery attempt caught on video in Sweden

Criminals aren’t generally known to be the sharpest tools in the shed, but two Swedish would-be watch robbers recently displayed a new level of criminal stupidity when their botched robbery attempt was caught on video.

The attempted thievery occurred in Kista Galleria, a mall on the outskirts of Stockholm, Sweden. In the video, posted to YouTube last week by a witness later identified as “Mario” by the Swedish newspaper Expressen, two men with their faces covered by pantyhose and handkerchiefs can be seen approaching the entrance of a watch store called Klockmaster. They’ve already parked their motorbike by the entrance, and immediately begin prying the door open with a crowbar.

Once inside, one attempts to fire his gun into the ceiling but it appears to jam, so he begins frantically slamming it against the shop counter. The two men begin loading merchandise into an enormous sack as Mario the witness calmly films the whole ordeal from just outside the shop. One of the men is so preoccupied with his jammed gun that he does little more than fiddle with it for the duration of the robbery.

After about a minute and half, the two men clamber outside with their bag and attempt to start the getaway bike, but it jams. They eventually get it started, but their bag is so cumbersome that it drags on the ground as they awkwardly drive away down the pedestrian area of the indoor mall.

Seconds after the men are out of view, a swarm of security officers flanked by what appear to be other shoppers flood the frame and give chase.

The Daily Mail reports that the two men were arrested a few kilometres away outside of a McDonald’s.

The takeaway tips these robbers can use for next time? Better gun, smaller bag, don’t stop for Big Macs.
