One of Australia’s cutest mammals has been released back into the wild after being rescued from a storm water drain by a Queensland Rail security guard.

The little platypus, named Percy, was discovered by security guard Anna-Maria during her patrols, says the Queensland Rail Facebook page.

The furry duck-billed mammal was immediately brought to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital where it received a full check for injuries.

The Australia Zoo staff are “happy to report a very healthy Percy” and it’s “a great sign that he will be perfectly capable of surviving independently in the wild,” Australia Zoo staff wrote on their Facebook page.

Shortly after his checkup, Percy was released into his new home, a creek far away from any hazards.
