Pet parrot rats out drunk-driving owner

Polly wanna spend the night in jail?

A Mexico City man recently discovered a downside to teaching his parakeet to talk: the bird doesn't have his back.

Spanish-language newspaper El Universal first reported the story.

As 49-year-old Guillermo Reyes got out of his car at an alcohol checkpoint on Tuesday, officers heard a voice coming from inside the vehicle: "He's drunk, he's drunk."

It was Reyes' pet parrot.

Sure enough, Reyes failed a sobriety test and was arrested for drunk driving.

According to the New York Daily News, it was feared the bird would die if separated from his owner, so the parrot accompanied Reyes to jail.

Don't drink and drive — and teach your pet to talk at your own risk.
