Is this photo by a Scottish sailor the best proof yet of Loch Ness Monster?

George Edwards captured the image and people in the military say it's an animate object

George Edwards has spent the past 26 years of his life searching for the elusive Loch Ness Monster and now says he has the best picture yet to prove its existence.

The Scottish sailor takes his boat, "Nessie Hunter", out on the water almost every day, often leading tourists who hope to see the mythical creature. According to ABC News, he was turning his ship back to shore when he noticed something out of the ordinary.

"I saw something out of the corner of my eye, and immediately grabbed my camera," he said to ABC News. "I happened to get a good picture of one of them."

Most images of Nessie show the monster having three humps, but Edwards believes it probably looks more like a manatee and there are more than one in the water.

He first became fascinated with Nessie at was 13 when his father would take him fishing by the lake. He started out as a skeptic, but over the years has turned into a believer.

"I'm convinced I was seeing Nessie as I believe in these creatures," he told the Inverness Courier. "Far too many people have been seeing them for far too long."

Edwards sent his image to people in the U.S. military who analyzed it and said they have no doubt he photographed an animate object in the water.

Even though the lake has been combed and nothing has ever been found, Edwards said that's not a reason to not believe.

"That's a silly reason to not believe thought, because those expeditions can't prove anything one way or the other," he said to ABC News. "It's a massive body of water, deep and dark, and we simply don't have the technology to really do that kind of search."

He said those searches are the equivalent of trying to do an ultrasound on a pregnant woman while she's running down a hallway.

Nessie was apparently first seen in the sixth century by an Irish monk and there have been numerous sightings since, with most coming after a 1933 sighting.

Edwards captured the photo in November of last year, but because of family issues just began showing to to people now.

Whether people believe the Edwards photo is the real thing or not, he said capturing it reinforced his beliefs that she exists.
