President Obama praises police officer for Nae Nae dance-off challenge

A recent viral video of a police officer having a dance-off with a teenager has garnered approval from President Barack Obama.

Earlier this week in Washington, D.C., a female police officer broke up a fight between two groups of teens with her impressive dance moves, the Washington Post reports.

When the officer arrived at the scene, 17-year-old Aaliyah Taylor approached the cop and started playing “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” on her phone.

The officer then did the Nae Nae dance, which involves bouncing your body side-to-side while putting one of your hands up and the other one down by your hip.

Taylor told Washington Post that if the teens won the dance-off, they could stay. But if the officer won, they would have to leave.

The challenge was accepted.

“Instead of us fighting, she tried to turn it around and make it something fun,” Taylor told Washington Post. “I never expected cops to be that cool. There are some good cops.”

In the video, the female cop is seen matching Taylor’s dancing step for step, even with all her equipment, as the crowd cheers them on.

Eventually, Taylor gets tired and hugs her competitor before everyone clears out, Sky News reports.

It looks like the dance off can be declared a tie, but the female officer was hailed by Obama on Twitter as a “great example of police having fun while keeping us safe.”
