Pope Francis's skullcap goes up for sale on eBay

If you’ve ever wanted to own a skullcap worn by Pope Francis, now is your chance.

Le Iene, a comedy show in Italy, is auctioning off the famous cap obtained directly from the Pontiff during an interview over the summer. Pope Francis traded the cap he was wearing with an actor who had purchased one from a shop in Rome.

The cap was posted on eBay with a starting price of 1 euro. In less than a day on the site, it has already received a high bid of 160,000 euros – the equivalent of C$226,000.

The sale was announced Wednesday during the show’s season debut. Bidding closes on Sept. 24.

The cast of Le Iene has decided to donate the entire proceeds to the charitable organization Soleterre, which provides medical treatment to children in need in Africa.
