Redditor’s call for help with daughter’s Olympics project picked up by Canadians

A parent on Reddit is helping out a second-grade class' Olympics project.

The American redditor, HalBriston, is collecting photos from Redditors around the world to create a slideshow for his daughter's class at Midstreams School in Brick, New Jersey, to supplement a project the students are working on.

"My daughter's 2nd-grade class is doing a project, tied in with the upcoming Olympic games. Each student has been assigned a country, and they'll do a basic report on them and make a poster showing a couple of the main details of the country. Then they'll follow along during the games and keep a running total of their country's medals," he wrote.

"So, I thought it might be a nice surprise for the kids if I could could create a slideshow of a few folks from each country to holding up signs sending greetings to the student and the class. If the greeting pictures have any scenic countryside or landmarks in the background, that would be a nice bonus."

He asked redditors from 16 countries — the countries assigned to his daughter's class — to contribute.

Canadian Reddit users jumped on board.

"Toronto here. I'm sure between myself and the bajillion other redditors in this city we can get some great pictures for you," wrote Reddit user You_got_it.

"I live in Montreal, I'll go up the mountain and take a picture with a sign with the city in the background," offered DaveyGee16.

"I live in Edmonton would [an] Edmonton oiler jersey in front of rexall place suffice?" asked mrdecentguy.

Saskatchewan checking in. If I remember I'll snap some pictures when I'm [in] Regina this weekend," wrote novoes.

Vancouverites promised photos of the Olympic cauldron, and Winnipeg residents offered pics of the Forks skating trail.

HalBriston plans to compile the photos from every country and post them on imgur for his daughter's classroom to access:

"My daughter is in this class as well (she's assigned to New Zealand). Since we live right across the street from the school, I help out there quite a bit in my free time. I just thought this would be a nice surprise for the kids!" he wrote.

"Once I have all the pics, I'll put them in an imgur folder and give the teacher the URL so she can show it to the class."
