Roaming bull forces Vietnam’s Phu Bai airport to close all day

Snow, mechanical issues, waiting for a passenger, waiting for food, waiting for the pilot to sober up - there are lots of reasons why a flight may be delayed, but a runaway bull?

That's what happened Tuesday at the Phu Bai Airport in Vietnam, an airport that services the tourist city of Hue.

According to The Associated Press, the airport was closed most of the day for safety reasons after a bull was roaming near the runway. The bull was spotted Monday morning in the woods that border the runway and eventually tranquilized and removed from the grounds Tuesday afternoon to be released into the wild. Eight flights were affected.

Viet Nam News reports the animal is thought to have entered the airport where a fence is being built. About 100 security guards, cops and forest rangers were guarding the airport to prevent the animal from entering nearby residential neighbourhoods.

The bull is also believed to have killed an elderly villager. Local chief Nguyen Hai told AP an 85-year-old woman was found dead with severe facial wounds outside her home Monday afternoon. The bull had been seen in the village on Monday.
