Ontario company faces backlash after posting sexist job advertisement
A Toronto web design firm is loudly being called out on social media for a sexist job posting it placed on LinkedIn.
The ad for a “Content Writer & SEO Specialist” was posted on the professional networking site by Vestra Inet. The brief job descriptions outlines a series of skills and duties that would be expected, like writing content for web clients, and creating blog posts for Facebook. It then adds that since the position requires filling in the responsibilities of the receptionist, “female candidates are preferred”.
Although the post has since been taken down and the firm is not commenting to the media, Twitter isn’t letting Vestra Inet live down their flub.

In Ontario, the Human Rights Code states “equal treatment with respect to employment is infringed where an invitation to apply for employment or an advertisement in connection with employment is published or displayed that directly or indirectly classifies or indicates qualifications by a prohibited ground of discrimination.”
