Socialite plans and attends her own funeral with wine and cigarette in hand

A New Orleans socialite organized and attended her own wake as she did all great parties, with a glass of champagne and a cigarette.

Even though New Orleans socialite Mickey Easterling has passed away, she is clearly still the life of the party.

Easterling, who passed away last week at the age of 83, attended her wake in the same fashion she would have attended any other party; with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of champagne in the other.

Party on, Mickey, here’s to hoping there’s many a social gathering in the afterlife.

Dressed in designer threads, a magnificent hat, a bright pink boa and a broach that read ‘bitch’ in rhinestones, Easterling was, as usual, the center of attention.

Propped up on an iron bench, as she requested in her own very specific funeral instructions, Easterling looked as much a part of the party as anyone else in attendance.

“She’s in a Leonardo outfit,” said Sammy Steele, who did her hair and make-up. “I actually dressed her for the occasion.”

The philanthropist, socialite and proud Louisiana native was known for throwing some of New Orleans' most memorable parties, and with more than a thousand people in attendance at her extravagant funeral service, it seems this last party she hosted was no different. She was known as the most generous person, giving contributions to the city, to the arts and to the community.

According to New Orleans ABC affiliate WGNO, Easterling had set out strict arrangements for her funeral, including her attire and the way in which she was to be propped up on a iron bench.

“It’s like something out a department store window in New York on 5th Ave.,” Steele said of Easterling’s pre-arranged funeral service. “She’s sitting in a garden scenery to depict her backyard. This is what she wanted. No stone was left unturned for this memorial.”
