Is St. John's home to the largest pothole in Canada?

After the winter we’ve had this year, it is inevitable that the roads are going to be in pretty rough shape. Now that the snow has melted, people are plagued by the many potholes left behind on the roads, and our poor vehicles are feeling the worst of it.

A pothole in St. John’s, Newfoundland might take the cake for the worst pothole yet. Now, we aren’t talking about a little bump in the road. No, this pothole is so huge it had to be surrounded with police tape and pylons. It is at least four-feet deep and large enough to destroy any car that drove over it.

Telegram reporter James McLeod demonstrates how big the pothole actually is in a YouTube video posted on Wednesday where he drops a banana into it.

Using the banana for scale so that viewers can see just how far down the pothole reaches into the earth, McLeod says, “it’s a really deep pothole.” Pothole? More like a sinkhole!

It’s not just Newfoundland dealing with those dreaded bumps in the road — and more importantly, the damage they do to our cars.

People across Canada have tweeted pictures of the pavement cracking and caving in due to damaged roads.

It seems some have even tried to fill the potholes with interesting items …

One pothole in Toronto was so big that it was difficult to see down to the bottom of it. A woman had actually almost walked directly into it!

CBC News tweeted a picture of an SUV that had been swallowed by a giant pothole in Trois-Riviéres, Quebec.

Pictures of the awful road conditions and the ridiculously large potholes have been trending over Twitter throughout the country. City workers are busy trying to repair them, but this seems to be the worst pothole season we’ve had in years. Be careful driving, or you could wind up straight into this giant hole in the earth!
