Steve Ettinger arrested for ‘Borat’-style mankini on boardwalk

The New York Man was charged with indecent exposure in Asbury Park, New Jersey

To celebrate the a New Jersey city scrapping a long-unenforced ban on wearing a bathing suit on the boardwalk, some people donned their bathing suits but one man apparently went too far.

Steve Ettinger, 26, can be seen in the video below wearing shorts over what look like green suspenders. But then when urged by someone behind the camera he takes his shorts off to reveal his Borat-style mankini. Ettinger was also provoked by people chanting "Borat."

A cop quickly approaches him saying, "You just exposed yourself, I saw you." Ettinger is then arrested on a lewdness charge, according to the Asbury Park Press. Ettinger was released a short time later.

"He had shorts on and a bathing suit under. Both were removed," said Asbury Park Police Chief Mark Kinmon to the Press.

Ettinger was cuffed and led away as the small group of activists taunted the police. Because Ettinger couldn't use his hands, the officer has to help him pull up his underwear and shorts over this mankini.

A civil disobedience protest was planned in response to a councilwoman asking the city to enforce a 1958 law banning swimwear from the boardwalk. The city decided to repeal the law so the organizer turned the protest into a peaceful beach party with people wearing swimwear on the boardwalk.

Ettinger has received a summons to appear in court for indecent exposure.
