Texas sportscaster’s rant in support of Michael Sam is epic

A gay man in the NFL?!

It’s not as if you’ve been told the sky is falling. Also, it’s 2014 and pssst…it’s okay to be gay.

Apparently not for NFL prospect Michael Sam, who publicly came out on Sunday as the first NFL player to be openly gay.

His out-coming has caused quite a stir in the NFL community, as not everyone agrees with an openly gay man playing in the league.

The all-American defensive end from Missouri and the SCC’s defensive player of the year, tells the world he’s gay and suddenly he becomes an expected third- to-fifth round draft pick. There’s something wrong here.

In a news video that’s gone viral, Dallas’ sports anchor Dale Hansen issues a near perfect public take-down for all those anti-gay skeptics.

Hansen’s delivers an amazing speech, using sarcasm and rhetoric to make you see that being gay really isn’t the horrific abomination many in the NFL may believe it is.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, several NFL officials have said, “it will hurt him on draft day because a gay player wouldn’t be welcome in an NFL locker room. It will be uncomfortable because that’s a man’s world.”

And Cue best rant ever in 3…2…1.

Hansen goes off about all the examples of the types of men that are accepted into the NFL. He explains how you can beat a woman, dragging her down a flight of stairs by her hair and you still be drafted fourth overall. How about the guy who kills people while he’s driving drunk? Sure, he can play, too! Especially welcome are the players who are caught in hotel rooms with prostitutes and illegal drugs. The players who are accused of rape and pay the woman to go away? Of course there’s room for those guys on the team!

But being gay? … Cricket … cricket.

Apparently, it would be too “uncomfortable.”

Hansen reminds viewers that it was too long ago that black players couldn’t play in the NFL because it would be too “uncomfortable.”

He states, “I’m not always comfortable when a man tells me he’s gay, I don’t understand his world. But, I do understand that he’s part of mine.”

Why? Because it's 2014! And pssst! It's okay to be gay!
