There’s a new purr-fect candidate in the NDG-Westmount riding

It looks like the politicians running in the NDG-Westmount riding of Montreal will face-off against a new furry opponent.

Humbert the cat has entered the race and although he isn’t affiliated with any major party, he’s seeking a federal nomination.

“I think it’s about time that we had a leader who has all four paws on the ground,” Humbert’s owner and campaign manager, John Jordan, told CBC Radio.

The four-year-old tiger tabby cat is throwing his paws into the political pool along with NDP candidate James Hughes, Conservative candidate Richard Sagala, and Liberal MP Marc Garneau.

Signs for Humbert’s campaign have been posted around the NDG-Westmount area with slogans such as “Let’s keep the box clean,” “No worse than the others,” and “An honest face.”

The feline, however, isn’t exactly a new face in neighbourhood. As it turns out, Humbert has already made a name for himself.

Last year, Humbert – along with his owner – helped fight a graffiti problem in their alleyway with cat-inspired art, according to the Montreal Blog.

Apparently the four-year-old cat also comes from humble beginnings. Jordan told CBC Radio that Humbert was a street cat before he was found and adopted.

“He’s the man of the people, he’s well-known public figure in NDG,” Jordan told Global News.

Although the cat’s campaign is just for fun, it may be the relief many voters need in the race.

“He is kind of the Trump of this election because he is distracting everyone from the real issues,” Jordan told CJAD.

Good luck Humbert!
