Titanic replica charts course to set sail in 2018

You might think that the Titanic’s maiden voyage was disastrous enough that no one would dream of trying to replicate it. You would be dead wrong.

Aussie billionaire Clive Palmer and his company Blue Star Line have had the ambitious plan in the works to build a “Titanic II”.

A spokesperson for Palmer confirmed with the Belfast Telegraph that the Titanic II is on track to set sail on its maiden voyage from Jiangsu, China to Dubai two years from now.

According to the Telegraph, the Titanic II will be visually identical to the original ship. There will be 840 cabins fitted to house 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members, Turkish baths, a swimming pool, a Parisian cafe, and an Edwardian-inspired gymnasium, reports BuzzFeed.

And this time, most important, enough life boats.

The project’s global marketing director, James McDonald, promises the new Titanic will be equipped with modern evacuation procedures, satellite controls, digital navigation, and radar systems - indeed, all those things you’d expect on a 21st century ship.

Blue Star Line claims it is overwhelmed with interest in riding on the ship, with some individuals offering more than a million dollars to be on the maiden voyage.

No word yet on whether Rose and Jack inspired selfies on the bow will be extra.
