Tyrannosaurus Rex name claimed by man for ‘name recognition’ purposes

Nebraska man Tyler Gold said he changed it because it sounds 'cooler'

Gold, a 23-year-old from York, Nebraska, is now going by Tyrannosaurus Rex after legally changing his name in court Monday.

The York News-Times reports Gold appeared before a judge and while on the witness stand explained his reasoning, which he also wrote in an official filing with the court. He said he wanted to change it "because the (T-Rex designation) is cooler. Also, as an entrepreneur, name recognition is important and the new name is more recognizable."

The judge asked if he was changing his name to hide from creditors or law enforcement and Gold said no. So Judge Alan Gless, who noted Gold had taken all the proper steps, officially approved the name change.

He is now officially known as Tyrannosaurus Rex Joseph Gold.

Gold isn't the first person to legally change his name to something rather unorthodox. Just last week a woman in England changed her name from Dawn McManus to a name that is 161 words long to encourage fundraising for her charity, Red Dreams, which was set up after her son died.

In January, we learned of a Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop after he was arrested in Wisconsin for carrying a concealed weapon. Zopittybop-Bop-Bop was previously named Jeffrey Drew Wilschke and it is unclear why he changed his name.
