Video of New Zealand toddler’s failed bicycle ride goes viral

A New Zealand child learned a tough life lesson about wheels and trees recently while his dad recorded the cycling mishap in a video that's since gone viral.

Sam Mann brought his son, who is two and half years old, to a park where he bravely mounted a bicycle for the first time — and then drove straight into a tree.

"And he's off for the big one!" Mann says as the video begins with his son triumphantly rolling down a small hill.

When he bonks, slowly, into the tree, his dad bursts into laughter.

The toddler is on his feet after the crash and the description says he wasn't badly hurt.

"Luckily he was okay and got away with just a small scratch – he even got straight back on for another turn!" says the description from Storyful.

The video has more than 480,000 views on YouTube, with some commenting that the child should have worn a helmet and others saying the father's reaction was mean.

But who doesn't get a few bumps and bruises on the path to growing up?
