When your video goes “viral,” that’s something to cheer about, and it has the potential to make anyone on the Internet a celebrity.

But hearing you’ve got something viral while sitting in a doctor’s office is probably a moment you don’t want to share on your Snapchat.

The #CondomChallenge is this year’s new social media trend. It’s all about promoting safe sex and demonstrating the durability of prophylactics.

“Twitter users have started using #CondomChallenge to help raise safe sex awareness, because, they reason, if it can fit around the head on a guy’s shoulder then it can most certainly fit around the one below their waist,” Medical Daily writes.

The gimmick consists of filling a condom up like a water balloon, then dropping it on someone’s head. Simple and easy, folks!

The idea gained traction fast after this video was posted to Twitter. It features an unknowing friend getting a condom filled with water dropped on him.

The unexpected outcome is that the trend has people talking. Condoms are much more stretchy than balloons and tend not to burst on impact.

“If you do it correctly, they won’t break and will just make you look like a really scary serial killer,” Teen Vogue writes.

They left out that if you do it properly, you are also guaranteed a good cackle at your friend/victim’s expense.

As was the case with previous viral trends like 2014′s Ice Bucket Challenge, some people are criticizing the gag as a waste of time and latex.

Some people also aren’t getting desired results.

Whether the #CondomChallenge will promote safer sex remains to be seen, but condom sales will definitely spike if the trend continues.
