White House rickrolls Twitter user posting about fiscal policy

U.S. President Barack Obama has been pushing to interact more with people via social media since he began campaigning in 2008 and sometimes the White House can be really funny.

While questions at the recent Twitter Town Hall were serious, one of Obama's staff members used an old trick to prank a Twitter user who recently wrote about fiscal policy.

David Wiggs wrote, "This WH correspondence briefing isn't nearly as entertaining as yesterday's."

The White House responded with this message.

Clicking on the link the White House sent takes you to the YouTube video for Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up music video. That's right, the White House Rickrolled someone.

Rickrolling is a meme from 2007 where one sends a link making it seem interesting, but in reality it is just a link to Rick Astley.

The meme was one of 10 initially catalogued by Smithsonian Magazine.

This isn't the first time the president has showed his sense of humour on social media. Last August, the White House posted a photo on flickr of Obama pressing his toes on a scale while as trip director Marvin Nicholson weighs himself. Nicholson looks very serious while Obama and his aides are laughing.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is also reaching out on social media, recently posting images of his new kitten and asking the public to pick a name.
