With video: 9-year-old boy falls 20 feet from chairlift

A nine-year-old boy survived a perilous 20-foot drop from a chairlift this weekend, with the fall captured on video.

The accident happened Saturday at the Liberty Mountain Resort in Fairfield, Pennsylvania. The video was shot by Adrian Delgado and shared with Fox News.

The video shows the boy dangling from the chairlift as two ski patrol members tried to help him two storeys below. Eventually, after kicking off at least one of his skis, the boy dropped into the deep snow below.

“At the end, they [other chairlift occupants] couldn’t pull him, because it would be rocking the lift, or all three of them would fall,” Delgado told ABC News.

The boy suffered a leg injury, but is expected to be OK. Authorities are still investigating what happened to cause the boy to be dangling from the lift.

According to ABC, chairlift deaths are rare, with elevator deaths occurring more often than ski lift deaths. There have been no chairlift deaths since 1993, and only 15 over the past four decades.
