Woman blown over by jet blast near St. Maarten airport

Two tourists were trying to hold the fence as a JetBlue plane took off

So much for enjoying a relaxing and quiet day at the beach. Female and male tourists were caught on camera in St. Maarten a few days ago trying to hang on to a fence as if to see if they are stronger than the force of jet propulsion. They definitely weren't.

As seen in the video, the man lets go first and runs toward the beach, hurdling a concrete barrier. The woman holds on slightly longer but isn't able to keep her balance as she is thrown backward and into the short barrier hitting her head on it.

Both tourists were taking to the St. Maarten Medical Center by ambulance. The male suffered a broken leg while the female suffered a deep cut to her head, reports St. Maarten Island Time.

Beach goers are warned with signs of low-flying aircraft and that the blast from jets can cause physical harm.

Maho Beach is right next to Princess Juliana International Airport. The Telegraph reports the runway, at 2,100 metres, is one of the shortest in the world. One end of the runway is the ocean and the other is the mountains.

In comparison, one of the shortest runways at Pearson airport in Toronto is 2,700 metres.
