Woman misses Victoria, B.C. ferry, ensuing tantrum goes viral

Sure, it’s frustrating to miss your plane, train, or, in this woman’s case, ferry.

But while we might feel like having a public meltdown, very few of us do. And when it does happen, it’s sure to go viral. Smartphones are everywhere.

Shared by the Facebook page Spotted in Victoria, a video of an unidentified woman having a tantrum on New Year’s Eve after being told she was too late to board her desired ferry is now making headlines across the country.

“You have no idea what it means to people!” the woman shrieked as she stomped out of the terminal.

"She may have been going to a party. We’re not sure. This was on New Year’s Eve, so she was maybe coming back to Victoria for a party or a get-together or something, but she’d missed it by three minutes," Austin Singhera, the co-creator of the Facebook page, told CBC News.

“I think a lot of us can sympathize with the woman for being upset in that scenario since I’m certain we’ve all had similar experiences,” Spotted in Victoria Facebook page co-creator Pavitar Sidhur told CTV News. “But it’s 2015, and someone recorded it.”

The video has been viewed on Facebook more than 700,000 times.

"Obviously, it’s something that people found funny or found interesting so they shared it with a lot of their friends and it’s just the power of social media now. We never thought something like this could be possible," Singhera said.

Reaction to the video has been mixed. Some called it an invasion of privacy, others found the meltdown downright inexcusable, and others were worried the video was unsympathetic to someone who could be dealing with difficult circumstances or mental health issues.

I don’t find this funny. It’s sad how other people’s problems and distress become everyone else’s entertainment. Nobody actually knows what went on or what happened. Maybe she is going through a really tough time and nobody seems to be understanding or being sensitive to her situation. Please don’t join the train and judge people when you don’t know what their situation is,” wrote Facebook user Vanessa Dong.
