Youth orchestra covers Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page approves

File this under: How to make your kid stick with his xylophone lessons. (Or: How to make sure parents will show up on recital night.)

In what could be a scene out of The School of Rock, these young musicians from Kentucky make Led Zeppelin songs their own — using only percussion instruments.

Check out their impressive covers of “Kashmir,” “The Ocean” and “Immigrant Song” above.

The video was first uploaded in November, but is only now getting some major attention thanks to the Louisville Leopard Percussionists’ newest fan: Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

“Too good not to share,” Page wrote on Facebook. “Have a rocking weekend!”

According to the official website, the Louisville Leopard Percussions are a performing ensemble of approximately 65 student musicians, ages 7 to 12:

“Each student learns and acquires proficiency on several instruments, such as marimbas, xylophone, vibraphone, drum set, timbales, congas, bongos and piano.”

Watch the ensemble’s steel-drummers, the Steel Leopards, cover We The Kings’ “Check Yes Juliet” and Pharrell William’s “Happy” below.
