Ben Folds is looking for a few good Edmontonians

He made profanity sound like poetry and sang about suburban dystopia long before Arcade Fire. Now, singer-songwriter Ben Folds plans to bring his unique brand of philosopher's rock to the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

As the Edmonton Journal notes, the orchestra will accompany the Nashville-based Folds in March as he performs songs from his two-decade career as a solo artist and a front man for the Ben Folds Five. Though Folds has taken his symphony-backed performance around the world, the Edmonton show will mark the production's first Canadian appearance and will be conducted by the ESO's Lucas Waldin.

While he rarely cracks the Top 40 mainstream, Folds commands a loyal fan base, many of whom petitioned for him to come to Edmonton.

In addition to his music, Folds recently garnered notice as a judge on NBC's talent competition, The Sing-Off.

Edmontonians who'd like a chance to have the artist evaluate their own vocal chops can audition for eight volunteer spots—two female and six male—on the Foldschoir, a chorus comprised of locals that will accompany the artist during eight songs, including "Jesusland" and "Narcolepsy."

Information on how to audition can be found here.

Meanwhile, fans of the Ben Folds Five's quirky but touching piano-driven rock will be happy to hear that the band has reunited and is planning to release a new album.
