Documents in drug arrest of Rob Ford’s personal friend set to be released

Documents and search warrants in the arrest of Alexander Lisi, a close personal friend of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, are set to be released to the public Thursday morning, and the lawyer who fought for their release believes the public will take "severe notice" in what is contained within.

A Superior Court judge ruled yesterday that some of the documents used to obtain a search warrant for Lisi should be released publicly. The Toronto Star and CBC News have both confirmed the release will come Thursday morning.

Ford has declined to comment on what might be contained inside the documents. But Lawyer Peter Jacobsen told Newstalk 1010 on Thursday that the documents will "cause people to sit up and take some severe notice."

"I think this will add some pieces to the puzzle and I this will confirm some information that people have had concerns about in the past about the mayor," he told the radio station.

The files pertain to Project Brazen 2, an investigation spun from a massive drug bust, which resulted in the drug trafficking arrest of Lisi. Lisi is Ford's longtime friend and occassional driver, who has been described by the mayor as a "good guy." He is alleged to have been involved in a violent search for a copy of a video that the Star and Gawker claim shows Ford smoking from what appears to be a crack pipe.

According to the Star, Justice Ian Nordheimer told the court on Thursday that Lisi wasn't the original focus of Project Brazen 2. Sources previously told the newspaper that Ford was the original target of the investigation.
