Police put brakes on Kelowna party bus for alcohol violation

It's advertised as a party on wheels — a 1970's school bus converted into a mobile nightclub, where the seats have been replaced by benches and a bright pink stripper pole adorns the interior.

But an alcohol violation has forced owner Jamal Jacob to tow his Embassy World Entertainment Bus back to the garage.

As the CBC reports, Kelowna police busted up the party on Saturday after they found that customers had brought large amounts of liquor on board.

"Dancing on a bus is ill advised, but open alcohol in any motor vehicle is illegal," Cst. Kris Clark with Kelowna RCMP told the news network.

Police slapped Jacob with an open liquor ticket and shipped the partygoers back home.

The incident didn't sit well with Trudi Schneider, who told the CHBC Okanagan News her 15-year-old son was left to fend for himself on the curb after getting drunk on the party bus two weeks ago. She said Jacob left her son, clad only in a t-shirt and jeans - on the side of the road after he had too much to drink and threw up.

"He was scared. Really scared and cold," she said, adding that she regrets allowing her son to attend the party.

Jacob said he dropped the teen off at a nearby gas station once he was sure the boy had texted his mother to pick him up.

The article also mentioned that Jacob's driver doesn't have a chauffeur permit. Jacob DJs from the vehicle's sound deck for the duration of the party.

While a brush with the law may have deterred other entrepreneurs, Jacob said he'd like to get his show back on the road.

"It's been a decent business so far. It's an interesting idea, it's a good time. It's a good place to be," he told the CBC.

He said he planned to meet with the City of Kelowna and will do whatever it takes to make his party bus legal.

The first step? Checking each passenger thoroughly for alcohol before they set foot on board.

Embassy World Entertainment Bus' Facebook page has since been removed from the social media site.
