Daily BrewReport says Canada was on Osama bin Laden’s hit list
Nearly two years after his death, Canada is being reminded that Osama bin Laden was not a fan of our country.
The al-Qaida leader, who was killed in a U.S. Navy SEALs raid in May 2011, had listed Canada among the potential sites of future terror attacks.
The National Post reports that papers and computer files captured during the fatal raid on bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, specifically mentions Canada along with the U.S., Britain, Israel, Germany and Spain, as a strike target.
The revelation was unveiled in a report by the Integrated Threat Assessment Centre, although it did not say bin Laden had a specific attack in the works.
According to the Post, the report reads, in part:
Canada remains a viable target of Islamist terrorism mainly because of its participation in Western military and political alliances, its involvement in coalition forces in Afghanistan, its support for Israel and the United States, and geographic proximity to the latter.
Hey, we all knew bin Laden's loathing of the west extended to Canada — he had threatened the country in the past, although never successfully launched an attack — but we really didn't need the reminder.
