Stephen Harper crashes Ottawa wedding photo session

This summer, President Barack Obama left a wedding gift for an unsuspecting couple at their Iowa wedding venue. Then presidential candidate Mitt Romney made headlines for being chased by an excited wedding party in New Jersey.

This weekend, Stephen Harper took notes from Obama's playbook and crashed an Ottawa wedding party's photo session. The prime minister's photobomb quickly went viral as a PR success story for Harper.

When the wedding party arrived at a parking lot off the Rockcliffe Parkway along the Ottawa River, a trio of dark cars were parked in the lot.

Bride Jocelyne Potvin and groom Patrick Sullivan, both 23, were posing for photographer Laura Kelly when Harper and his security detail stepped out of their cars to join them.

"Someone jokingly says, 'I bet you it's the Prime Minister or something!'" Kelly wrote on her photography blog.

"We laugh, and move on with our photo taking. [But] wouldn't you know it, Mr. Stephen Harper himself came over to wish the bride [and] groom a happy wedding day!"

Harper, dressed down in a "Tory-blue windbreaker" introduced himself to everyone and posed for photos with the newlyweds.

Between the photo session and the reception, Kelly put together a digital slide show of the prime minister's impromptu visit to share with wedding guests at the reception that evening.

"The whole night guests were coming up and asking how come the prime minister was in the photos," Kelly told the Toronto Star. They asked, "Do you have the PM at all your weddings?"

Kelly shared the entire story, complete with photos, on her blog. She wrote that Harper insisted that he get a photo with her, too, and called the surprise visit "a true celebrity sighting and a super fun experience to boot."

On Twitter, Canadians reacted to the story, calling Harper's photobomb "the most likeable thing he's done since becoming PM" and "kind of awesome." Agree?
