Toronto citizens express outrage at Rob Ford with chalk messages at City Hall

Fed up with their current mayor, Torontonians took to the concrete at City Hall and chalked on messages for Rob Ford.

Scores of upset and outraged Toronto residents took to City Hall this week to express their outrage in chalk. Messages urging Mayor Rob Ford to step down, to resign, to seek help and get straight were written on the concrete walls around Nathan Phillips Square.

"Enough," read one simple chalk message. "Coward works here," read another. "I am a taxpayer and I would like you to resign now," said another.

By Friday morning, city employees had sprayed those walls clean. But for one full day, those messages stood clearly and spoke loudly.

"This is what people can do," one man told Yahoo Canada News. "They can get involved by voting, by getting informed about the candidates, learn about it issues and ensure that a wall like this does not ever happen again in our city's history."

While the walls around City Hall were clear of chalk on Friday morning, more are sure to return, and protests will inevitably gather again as the Ford drug abuse scandal continues to spin out of control.

"I love this city. Unfortunately this mayor has made us an international embarassment. I'm getting emails from my friends in Montreal. It is just shameful," said another Toronto resident.

A massive protest calling for Ford to resign has been planned for November 13 at noon. It is expected to draw hundreds of residents back to Nathan Phillips Square, where chalk messages will almost surely be written again.
