Toronto Maple Leafs throw down in a Movember challenge

Movember, the month formerly known as November, kicked off today with men all over the world shaving their upper lips for the final time before trying to grow the best moustache they can.

Among the millions of men growing staches will be members of the Yahoo! Canada team and joining us are Matt Frattin and Jake Gardner of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The players talk to us about who has the better stache - Burt Reynolds or Hulk Hogan. And lay out the terms of their Movember rivalry.

It's an annual, month-long event where men try to look like Tom Selleck to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer and other male cancers. Last year, more than 245,000 Canadians participated raising more than $42 million - more than any other country. The tradition started in Australia in 2003 and also aims to increase early cancer detection and reduce the number of preventable deaths.

"Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by promoting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men's health," reads the Movember site.

In addition to funds going toward fighting male cancers, the money will also go toward male mental health initiatives.

The site reads, "Mental health is a new addition for Movember Canada and a critical issue for Canadian men with 1 in 5 men experiencing a mental health issue this year."
