Twitter live chat with Greenpeace’s Christy Ferguson, Thursday, September 26 at noon EST

Thirty Greenpeace activists, including two Canadians, are being detained by Russian authorities after they tried to board a drilling platform last week.

The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise was towed to the port city of Murmansk, where the group will be questioned by Russia's main federal investigative agency and some could face piracy charges that could lead to up to fifteen years in jail, according to the Associated Press (although Russian president Vladimir Putin on Wednesday dismissed the piracy complaints).

Yahoo Canada will be hosting a live Twitter chat on Thursday, September 26 at noon EST with Christy Ferguson, the Arctic campaign coordinator for Greenpeace Canada. Ferguson was aboard Greenpeace’s Arctic Sunrise ship last month, and negotiated with Russian coast guard officials who were threatening to fire at the activists if they did not stop their protest. We will discuss with her Greenpeace’s goals and strategies as well as the ongoing developments in this particular case.

The Twitter live chat will take place at @yahoocanadanews. You can use the #GPArctic hashtag to be a part of the conversation. If you have any questions for Ms. Ferguson, you can ask them directly on the day of the chat, or submit them below in our live blog environment. Preference will be given to users who sign into the live blog with their Twitter credentials so we can better streamline the conversation.
