There tend to be a lot of weird ideas about science, the world and the universe that are floating around, mostly left over from strange science lessons, urban myths, and tall tales. It's difficult, sometimes, to get these ideas unstuck, but there's so much about science, the world and the universe that's so awesome that we can do without all these misguided 'facts'. How to making fake snow with Hard Science

Many parts of Canada are already seeing their first snowfalls of the year, so a lack of snow isn't something we really need to worry about here. For people living closer to the equator, they don't necessarily have to deal with shoveling it and driving in it, but they also don't really get to enjoy the cool things about it. They don't necessarily need to build a big indoor ski facility to get their first experience with snow, though. They just need a hyperabsorbent salt called sodium polyacrylate, also called 'waterlock', and some Hard Science:

We've actually designed robots that poop...

It wouldn't be Weird Science Weekly without a story about poop, and this week doesn't disappoint. This time, though, it's about a source you probably wouldn't have anticipated — robots.
