Vancouver boy battling cancer pays it forward

A Vancouver boy is giving up the opportunity to make one dream come true in order to bring many dreams to life for other children.

Seven-year-old Jack is fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a painful and debilitating process that involves regular blood tests, chemotherapy, and a spinal tap every three months. Diagnosed in 2013, it’s even caused him to miss a full year of school.

But when the Children’s Wish BC and Yukon chapter asked the little boy what his one special wish he would like to be granted, he choose to take a benevolent approach.

Rather than wish for an Xbox or trip to Disney World, Jack asked that he pay his wish forward. He and his Children’s Wish partner, Sam Struan, started fundraising for other children who are also fighting cancer.

“Usually the money we raise goes to the kid that we partner with, so that would be Jack,” Struan says in a YouTube video. “But instead, Jack wants to fundraise $10,000 so he can grant a wish and pay it forward to another sick child.”

In his own video, Jack and his “Jack Attack” team tell viewers that they’d love their support. So far, $2,328 of the $10,000 goal has been raised.
