The Amazings: Retirees teach their skills to a younger generation with fun classes

The Amazings is a celebration of the knowledge and skills retirees have to offer younger generations. Our elders are amazing — and it's time we recognized that.

The new social enterprise in London, England, was designed with the mission to "help people who are about to retire or have retired create amazing experiences with the skills, knowledge, and passion they've picked up throughout their life."

Retirees sign up to share their expertise through classes and activities, some of which currently include "Cook Hungarian food with Jimmy," "Introduction to crochet with Bernadette" and "Make a skirt in a day!"

The Amazings takes care of the business details, leaving the retirees to just "decide when they want to run their experience, turn up, be amazing, and then collect the cash."

"We realized the solutions for the aging population were typically doing things for them like the daycare center, meals on wheels, carers," Katie Harris, 27, a co-founder, told TNT Magazine. "But the majority of older people we met are able-bodied, passionate, and are skilled. They are willing to give their time and skills back to the public, but it wasn't easy to do."
