Baby gorilla recovers from pneumonia, meets mom for the first time

Last week, we shared the story of a baby gorilla born via rare emergency C-section at the San Diego Zoo.

This week, after recovering from respiratory problems and pneumonia, the still-unnamed baby gorilla finally got to meet her mother, 18-year-old Imani.

On Monday morning, staff at San Diego Zoo Safari Park physically introduced the two gorillas in the private gorilla bedroom area where the animals could interact undisturbed.

TV monitors and a keeper's cell phone recorded the sweet meeting.

Imani picked up her daughter, held her and started nursing her.

Yesterday, the zoo gave an update: Mother and child are still together and doing well.
