Boy who battled stage 4 cancer gets his wish — and ‘finds’ Nemo!

Actor Eric Bana helped five-year-old Aiden Hyde find Nemo.

Five-year-old Aiden Hyde found Nemo.

Aiden first discovered that Nemo was missing when he and his family visited the Sydney Aquarium to see the where "Nemo lives."

Sydney's Far North Police then responded to a call to assist Aiden in an operation to locate his favourite Pixar character.

The scavenger-hunt-like adventure was coordinated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

When Aiden was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, he spent countless hours in a hospital bed. Through the chemotherapy, surgeries, bone marrow transplant and radiation, one constant remained: Aiden's love for Finding Nemo.

"While in hospital he loved Finding Nemo," Aiden's mother, Nicole, told the Daily Telegraph. "He had a central line so he had to stay very still and there was not much else to do but watch movies."

To celebrate his remission, Make-A-Wish Australia created a custom adventure for the little boy who watched Finding Nemo over and over during his treatment.

To find Nemo, Aiden and his family flew to Cairns, where a police motorcade escorted them to the Cairns Tropical Zoo. There, the youngster searched for pieces of a puzzle that formed a map of Nemo's whereabouts.

He was then met by SERT operatives, dressed in tactical attire and driving a bear cat, who handed the boy another clue.

According to Queensland Police Service, "The party then travelled in the police motorcade, which now included the bear cat, to Fogarty Park where a helicopter was waiting. Aiden and his family were flown in the chopper to Green Island for the final step in the operation to find Nemo."

"After having completed his snorkel training back in Cairns, Aiden was able to board a boat at Green Island and lead the snorkel mission to finally find Nemo. To the relief of all involved, the little clownfish was located healthy and safe in an outer reef."

Eric Bana, who voiced the character Anchor the shark in the beloved Pixar film, even offered some help, giving Aiden his final clue.

Acting Detective Inspector Kevin Goan said it was an honour to assist Aiden on his mission.

"It was a privilege to be involved in co-ordinating the policing response to this request for assistance and I am thankful for the support of all of our officers who participated in this operation to make Aiden’s wish come true," Goan said.
