Can peas bring peace to the Middle East?

An Isreali cafe near the coastal city of Netanya is hoping to help spread peace with the help of their chick pea spread.

The Hummus Bar is offering a 50 per cent discount to Jews and Arabs who dine together.

A translated post from their Facebook page reads:

“Scared of Arabs? Scared of Jews? With us there are no Arabs! But also no Jews… With us there are only human beings! And real, wonderful Arab hummus! And great Jewish falafel! And free refills on all hummus dishes if you’re Arab, Jewish, Christian, Indian, et cetera… Special discount: 50% off on hummus dishes for a table where Jews and Arabs are sitting together! *Valid Sundays through Thursdays.”

The offer has been “liked” over 5,000 times and “shared” over 1,000 times.

Owner Kobi Tzafirir said he wants to show the world that not all Jews and Arabs are involved in violence.

“We want to show that we’re all human beings, just like each other, not so different,” he told Al Jazeera over the phone.

The area has seen ongoing conflict for many years. According to the Palestinian health ministry, 44 Palestinians have died this month at protests and riots, and seven Israelis have been killed in attacks involving knives, bullets and cars.
