Cat rescued from underneath ferry in Sweden

On February 21, Stellan Stenberg, who works on the Swedish fast ferry HSC Gotlandia II, heard strange noises coming from beneath the docked boat.

A cat had managed to finds its way to the water jet propulsion system just above the water line.

"We heard the cat meowing when we were getting on to work, it had probably fallen into the water and was trying to crawl up. He sat there and was distressed," Stenberg told Aftonbladet.

Johan Skarkarl, one of Stenberg's colleagues, donned a wetsuit and swam out to rescue the trapped feline, carefully carrying him to shore without getting him wet.

"He is an animal lover and said immediately that he wanted to jump in," Stenberg said.

The incredible rescue was captured on video and went viral in Sweden and abroad.

According to the Local, there was little risk that the cat would have been swept out to sea as the ferry only operates during the summer months.
