Connor Johnson, 6, wants to be an astronaut when he grows up.

"The whole reason I want to be an astronaut is so I can discover, like, new worlds," Conner told KUSA.

When he learned that congress was cutting some of NASA's funding, essentially threatening his childhood dream at risk, he decided to take action — and save NASA.

First, he offered NASA his savings.

"My whole idea was writing off to the President and then I decided to give my whole piggy bank to NASA. I have about $10.41," Connor told KUSA.

Then, on the advice of his family, he started a petition.

"Increase the funding for NASA so that children can dream of exploring the universe. Science funding is the future of our country," the petition reads.

"To get a response from the White House, I need 100,000 signatures," Connor said.

So far, Connor's petition has collected over 9,700 signatures. He has until December 29 to reach his goal.

"NASA, if you're watching, thank you," Connor told his beloved agency in a video.

Everyone's favourite science guy, Bill Nye, has also spoken out against the NASA cuts. His open letter to Barack Obama has gone viral.
