Elderly one-eyed dog rescued from Pheonix canal

Lab rescued from canal

A 10-year-old yellow Labrador mix is recovering at the Arizona Humane Society's Second Chance Animal Hospital after being rescued from a Phoenix canal on Friday morning.

A good Samaritan spotted the weak, shivering one-eyed dog in the canal and called AHS Emergency Animal Medical Technicians (EAMTs).

When the EAMTs arrived, they spotted the dog in the water. The dog swam toward Andy Gallo, one of the rescuers, who used a large pole with a rope on its end to pull the canine to safety.

"EAMT Andy Gallo immediately called out to the dog who let out a yowl and swam over. Weak and tired, the old guy who only has one eye, was shivering from the ordeal. He is now being cared for by AHS' veterinarians as they work to get his body temperature back up," said AHS spokesperson Bretta Nelson.

The dog isn't microchipped and was found without identification or a collar. Nelson told MyFoxPhoenix that AHS hopes the dog's owners come forward soon.
