Faithful service dog hang-glides with owner

Service dog learns to fly

Dan McManus suffers from separation anxiety. A faithful psychological service dog, named Shadow, sticks by his side to make him feel safe.

"He named himself really," McManus, from Utah, told Fox 13. "He would follow me absolutely everywhere."

"He seems to know he’s a service dog," he added. "He seems to know what his job is. If I’m anxious, he has that calming effect on you."

McManus is an avid hang-glider. Shadow gets distressed, however, when his owner is in the air because he can't keep him company as he was trained to do.

The obvious compromise: McManus now takes his Australian cattle dog hang-gliding with him.

"He wanted to go along, and he didn’t really like to see me up there by myself," McManus told KSTU. "He needs to keep me safe, so he needed to go flying with me to keep me safe."

"As we always say, home is where the heart is," McManus said. "And I think this is where his heart is. He was born to fly."
